The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the United States, with over 3 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The ELCA is divided into 65 synods, and includes over 16,000 pastors. In addition, 150 missionaries, 125 campus pastors, over 1700 chaplains are partners in the ministry of the ELCA. The ELCA operates eight seminaries, has 28 colleges and universities affiliated with it, and is affiliated with 145 camp ministries. Bishop Elizabeth Eaton guides the ELCA in its mission and ministry. Our Savior’s has been a member of the ELCA since its inception in 1987.Become a Member

The La Crosse Area Synod is a geographic grouping of congregations and is one of 65 synods in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. A total of 38,100 baptized members in the synod and 73 churches, partner camps, nursing homes, and Lutheran Campus Ministries of La Crosse make up the La Crosse Area Synod. The locations our ministries serve include counties in southwestern Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota. Our Savior’s is a part of the synod’s West Conference and together we seek to be faithful in mission of the gospel of Jesus Christ in this part of God’s creation. Bishop Felix Malpica is our Bishop, and Pastor Dione Stepanek serves as Assistant to the Bishop.  The synod office is located in La Crosse.

 

Partner ministries

The West Salem Presbyterian Church partners with Our Savior’s on a number of ministries, and shares in our work in the community.  We treasure our relationship!

Lutheran Campus Ministry-La Crosse (LCM) serves UW-L, Viterbo, and Western Technical College. Housed in the “Common Ground” building,  LCM makes a huge difference in the lives of young adults. Our Savior’s is a major supporter of LCM.

The La Crosse Area Synod School of Theology provides a local learning opportunity. Taught by pastors and qualified lay leaders, the course work covers Bible, theology, history, and ministry skills, and is open to anyone who wants to learn. No grades, just learn what you can!

Sugar Creek Bible Camp is our church camp in Ferryville, offering programs for young and old alike. Check their web site for the current ministries.

Lutheran World Relief is the agency through which much relief work is channeled throughout the world. Their web site is a great source for information on hunger and other crises around the globe.

Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin-Upper Michigan (LSS) is part of a larger association of Lutheran social service agencies, the largest network in the United States.  LSS has a multitude of ministries throughout the state including adoption, foster care, refugee services, mental health, disabilities, youth/family, addictions, and housing/homelessness.  LSS is proud to serve people of all faiths and backgrounds.

The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago (LSTC) is one of ELCA Seminaries.  Pastor Jon is an alum (MDiv, 1986).

Wartburg Seminary (Dubuque, IA) is another ELCA seminary. Pastor Jean is an alumna of Wartburg (TEEM, 2009). Wartburg also offers a wide variety of online courses designed for lay people.

Luther Seminary (St Paul, MN), is yet another seminary of the ELCA. Bonnie Klos, a former member of Our Savior’s, graduated from Luther.

Luther College, located in Decorah, IA, is a four year liberal arts college affiliated with the ELCA, and has historic ties with Our Savior’s. Living Lutheran is the official magazine of the ELCA.  Not intended to repeat the “party line,” the magazine seeks to challenge and nudge the reader, but always in the shadow of the cross of Jesus, and the embrace of a loving God.
