About Us

Our Savior’s is a confessional Church that acknowledges Jesus as the true Son of God and the Bible as the true source of God’s revelation. We are an Ecumenical Church that works for the unity of all Christians. We are a Visible Church that gathers together in this community to worship, pray, and hear God’s Word. We are part of the Invisible Church made up of all God’s people everywhere.

OSLC History

Established in 1856, Our Savior’s is a part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Committed to reaching toward God and to each other for the sake of the world, we invite you to share in our ministries of worship, learning, witness, service and fellowship.  You can read more of the story of God’s people doing “God’s work with their hands” in this place, by clicking here.

OSLC Mission

As the people of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to reach toward God and to each other for the sake of the world, through:
WORSHIP + LEARNING + WITNESS + SERVICE
Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is part of a group of close to six million Lutherans in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The ELCA is divided into nine regions. These regions are further divided into sixty-five Synods. Our Savior’s is located in the La Crosse Area Synod and is one of over eighty congregations within its boundaries.

As Lutherans, we are a confessional Church that acknowledges Jesus as the true Son of God and the Bible as the true source of God’s revelation. We are an Ecumenical Church that works for the unity of all Christians. We are a Visible Church that gathers together in this community to worship, pray, and hear God’s Word. We are part of the Invisible Church made up of all God’s people everywhere.

WE STAND READY TO SERVE ALONGSIDE YOU IN CHRIST’S NAME!

ELCA History

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was formed over 20 years ago. This new church was formed from three separate and well-established North American church bodies:

  • The American Lutheran Church
  • The Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches, and
  • The Lutheran Church in America.

Beginning January 1, 1988, these churches, with shared beliefs and missions, officially formed the ELCA. Two decades later, this energized church is composed of 4.8 million members and nearly 10,500 congregations across the U.S. and Caribbean. Today, the ELCA reflects the rich and diverse heritage of the people it serves.

But to understand our heritage fully, one must trace our roots back through the mid-17th century, when early Lutherans came to America from Europe, settling in the Virgin Islands and the area that is now known as New York. Even before that, Martin Luther sought reform for the church in the 16th century, laying the framework for our beliefs.
